Maldives weather is classified tropical. Since the group of islands is situated on the Equatorial belt temperatures are warm all through the year, with an abundant amount of sunshine annually. Maldives weather experiences noteworthy differences in it conditions from the Northern Atolls and the Southern Atolls; in the North atoll characteristics are higher temperatures with fewer showers and the South Atoll has an abundant amount of precipitation.

The weather in the Maldives is determined primarily by the monsoons. The two main monsoon seasons are the Northern monsoon named iruvai, bringing with it very little rain and wind during the months from November to April. Clear skies are almost a permanent feature of the landscape, while Maldives weather during this time of the year is characterized by lower humidity levels. The southwest monsoon called halhangu on the other hand transports heavy rains and blustery winds, making its presence felt between June to August.

Due to its positioning on the Equatorial belt, tropical storms and cyclones are an exceptional rare occurrence. When cyclones do occur, they tend to blow in from the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea forming overcast clouds over the Maldives casting spells of showers and heavy rainfall. Maldives weather in the Northern region may worsen considerably as a result, but there is little outcome on the southern islands.

The season with the majority of precipitation is from June to September when the Southwest monsoon is firmly in place. There are frequent windstorms and the sea becomes quite rough and unsettled during this time of the weather. Maldives weather is at its hottest during March and April. Recurrent light, north East winds, and unpredictable sea breezes are experienced at this time of the year.

Maldives weather is at its best between December to April when the conditions are usually warm with clear skies and an abundant amount of sunshine and little or no rain, making it the perfect time to visit.
